STRABAG completes acquisition of Romanian railway infrastructure specialist BAWI Construction

The Romanian railway construction specialist BAWI Construction is now part of the STRABAG Group

Acquisition of 100% of BAWI Construction SRL successfully completed
Strengthening STRABAG’s railway construction activities in Romania
240 employees and 60 million euros output volume in 2025

STRABAG SE has successfully completed the acquisition of 100% of the shares in BAWI Construction SRL, a Bucharest-based company specialised in railway infrastructure services. The transaction was announced in July 2026, has now reached closing following the receipt of all required regulatory approvals.

The transaction further strengthens the Group's position in the South-East European railway infrastructure market and expands its expertise and value chain depth in railway construction. BAWI’s range of services extends from construction and modernisation to specialised works and in-house component production.

Their proven expertise, strong market position and commitment to quality make them an excellent fit for our railway construction business. Together, we are ideally positioned to seize the opportunities offered by the growing Romanian and broader South-East European railway infrastructure markets.
