STRABAG subsidiary wins major contract to build 561 apartments in Amsterdam

  • "&Amsterdam" with a contract value of 139 million euros
  • 561 rental apartments, 1,000 square meters of commercial space and 200 underground parking spaces
  • Construction time approx. 3 years, start of construction in April 2025

The Dutch subsidiary of STRABAG, ZÜBLIN Nederland B.V., will carry out a major residential construction project in Amsterdam worth around 139 million euros for Greystar, a global leader in the investment, development, and management of high-quality real estate across the living sector. The three-part building complex "&Amsterdam" with a total gross floor area of 57,017 square meters will be built in the Amstel III development area located in southeast Amsterdam – an area that is currently undergoing a transformation from a monofunctional office district into a lively urban neighbourhood. The urban development project will relieve the scarce rental housing market in the Dutch capital: &Amsterdam consists of three buildings with a total of 561 multifamily apartments on a living space of 48,000 square meters, supplemented by 1,000 square meters of commercial space and an underground car park with around 200 parking spaces.

  • We are particularly pleased to contribute to the realisation of this important project for Amsterdam with our expertise in sustainable planning and construction. There is an urgent need for affordable yet attractive living spaces everywhere – all the more reason for our ZÜBLIN teams to fully focus on the timely and high-quality completion of &Amsterdam.

Sophisticated architecture meets sustainable technology

The 561 apartments are divided into different segments: social rental, mid-rental and free sector rental. The unit sizes vary between 30 and 120 square meters. Roof gardens contribute to the green appearance and quality of life, and the 77 m, 45 m and 30 m high buildings are grouped around a shared courtyard garden. On the ground floor of the ensemble, there is commercial space for restaurants, retail or services as well as common areas for residents.

Visually, various façade finishes give the project a dynamic yet cohesive appearance. Another key feature of the design is the integration of sustainable technologies. The building ensemble is equipped with a thermal heat storage system, solar panels on the roof and a rainwater system that discharges the collected water into the sewerage system with a time delay. After its completion in spring 2028, &Amsterdam will fulfil energy efficiency class A++. A BREEAM certification (Excellent) for the building operation is also targeted.
