Project launch: Construct-X heralds a new phase in the digitalization of the construction industry
1 April 2025
STRABAG is an application partner in the Construction-X project, contributing practical requirements for a shared data room. The construction technology group provides data and tests applications.
In the three-year research project, digital standards, tools and processes are being developed by a network of almost 40 partners. The Construct-X network team is made up of well-known companies from the construction industry, the skilled trades, IT technology as well as research and university institutions. Key construction industry and trade associations are also involved.
Construct-X develops data rooms based on open source principles, a cloud-based open source reference architecture and cloud edge applications relevant to the construction sector. This also includes the development of technologies for the multi-provider cloud edge continuum, which will enable latency-free and secure processing of data on construction sites.
Construct-X's aim is to increase productivity, efficiency and transparency in the construction industry and in construction projects. Aspects of sustainability and resource conservation are also to be effectively implemented. The consistent use of data is a key factor in this, which has so far only been partially implemented in the diverse and heterogeneously organized construction industry. Construct-X aims to make an important contribution to ensuring that future investments in the planning, construction and operation of infrastructure and building construction achieve significantly more and better output.
Construct-X is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the European Union and is part of the EU initiative IPCEI-CIS, Important Project of Common European Interest - Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services. Construct-X is thus part of the EU strategy to strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty.
STRABAG is focusing on use cases in the areas of sustainability and BIM in the project and is defining the requirements for data storage and integration. The edge devices developed to display and calculate key sustainability figures serve as a basis for decision-making in construction projects and are tested by STRABAG. This includes the collection and analysis of data relevant to environmental, social and governance reporting. The aim is to prepare the interface of the internally used systems so that they can seamlessly dock onto the data room in order to ensure efficient data processing and use.
