Grand opening of the Stadtforum Dresden: New center for citizens and administration

  • ZÜBLIN was in charge of planning and building the new administration center for Dresden
  • Space for information, exchange and service
  • Jobs for approx. 1,500 employees in the fields of urban development, construction, transport and economic development
The opening ceremony for the new Stadtforum Dresden took place on March 29. As a modern administrative center and central point of contact for citizens, the building unites numerous municipal departments under one roof. The construction project was realized on behalf of KID Kommunale Immobilien Dresden GmbH & Co. KG by a consortium consisting of Ed. Züblin AG and Dreßler Bau GmbH as general contractor.

"The Stadtforum with its striking architecture was a challenging construction project. We are very proud of what we have achieved and are now looking forward to celebrating the opening of the administration building together. The successful realization shows what is possible through constructive cooperation and the commitment of all those involved. I would like to thank everyone involved in the project for this," says Frank Hübner, Head of Construction, ZÜBLIN Saxony division

A meeting place
The Stadtforum Dresden was designed with the aim of creating an open and citizen-friendly administration. The inviting entrance area acts as a central point of contact and, with the open "Agora", offers space for information, exchange and service. In total, the building provides modern workplaces for around 1,500 employees from the areas of urban development, construction, transport and business development. The space is complemented by state-of-the-art conference rooms, meeting zones and a staff restaurant for public use.

Sophisticated architecture meets sustainability
The building extends over 16,700 m² of usable space above ground and is characterized by a striking façade design. The three-part façade with its contrasting upper floors and generous glass surfaces on the lower levels creates a strong visual contrast to the light limestone grid of the central section of the building. A particular eye-catcher is the central glass façade of the Agora, which opens up like a huge window to the town hall opposite. In total, over 23,000 cubic meters of concrete and around 3,500 tons of reinforcing steel were used.
The building also includes two large, green inner courtyards and a flat roof with extensive greenery. The building is seeking certification in accordance with sustainable building criteria (BNB). In addition to 165 parking spaces for cars, the underground car park offers a total of 371 bicycle parking spaces to promote sustainable mobility.

High-quality interior design and state-of-the-art technology
Wooden slat constructions on the walls and ceilings in the foyer and in the Agora, together with vertical green elements, create a pleasant atmosphere. Modern office, meeting and recreation areas offer optimal working conditions. The technical equipment includes energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning technology with a district heating supply as well as heated and chilled ceilings, which ensure a pleasant indoor climate.
