STRABAG commissioned with the renovation and expansion of the Kranjčevićeva Stadium in Zagreb

  • Key sports infrastructure project in the City of Zagreb
  • Capacity of the new stadium: 11,163 seats, UEFA Category 4
  • Total contract value: 38 million euros

STRABAG d.o.o., the Croatian subsidiary of the European construction group STRABAG SE, has officially signed the contract for the renovation and expansion of the Kranjčevićeva Stadium in Zagreb, marking the start of one of the capital’s most significant sports infrastructure projects. Commissioned by the City of Zagreb to STRABAG as best bidder, the project with a contract volume of 38 million euros will deliver a modern football stadium with a significant increase in capacity from 5,350 to 11,163 seats, all of which will be fully covered. Construction work has recently started and is expected to take about 18 months, with completion scheduled for the end of 2026.

The new stadium will fully comply with UEFA Category 4 standards, allowing it to host top-tier football matches from the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. The contract includes a full-scale reconstruction of the existing stadium, aligning with the highest construction and safety standards. The sports facility will offer a heated hybrid pitch, modern press rooms and all the amenities of a modern stadium. It will also feature energy-efficient solutions, full accessibility for people with disabilities, and state-of-the-art multimedia and security systems. The new Kranjčevićeva Stadium will not only serve as a premier sports venue for GNK Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian National Team and other clubs, but it will also bring long-term benefits to the sports and broader social infrastructure of the City of Zagreb.

The project is part of a significant investment in Zagreb’s sports infrastructure, which also includes the construction of a swimming pool in the Špansko district, also built by STRABAG.

  • We are honoured to have been selected by the City of Zagreb to execute this landmark project. Having recently been awarded the contract for the modernisation of a 50 km section of the Istrian railway line between Buzet and Sveti Petar u Šumi or the elderly care facility in Drniš, to name just two of our current Croatian projects, this new contract once again demonstrates our wide-range of expertise for projects of all types and sizes.
