STRABAG commits to science-based climate targets

  • STRABAG signs up to Science Based Targets initiative
  • Commitment to goal of 1.5 °C temperature rise
  • Next step: define near-term target for 2030
The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has confirmed STRABAG’s commitment to climate action through science-based targets. The global initiative is a collaboration of several NGOs that has been joined by more than 1,000 companies to set science-based climate targets since it was established in 2015. By joining the initiative, STRABAG commits to reducing its CO2e emissions to limit global warming to 1.5 °C in line with the goal of the Paris Agreement.

Our commitment to ‘Work On Progress’ also means being part of the solution and actively shaping the future of construction. This requires us to take a close look at the challenges facing our industry. We are already working on ways to reduce our CO2e emissions, and our commitment to science-based targets is the next step in making these ambitions measurable and transparent. Our action sends a clear message that we take sustainability seriously,” says Marco Xaver Bornschlegl, Head of STRABAG Innovation & Digitalisation.

STRABAG now has 24 months to submit a near-term target for validation. This target must then be realised in line with climate science by 2030.
