STRABAG drives forward potential of sustainable building materials with acquisition of Naporo Klima Dämmstoff GmbH

  • 100% takeover of Naporo Klima Dämmstoff GmbH
  • Acquisition strengthens STRABAG’s expertise in sustainable building materials, expands product portfolio with hemp insulation pioneer Naporo

STRABAG has acquired Naporo Klima Dämmstoff GmbH from its previous owner, Synthesa Group. The acquisition expands STRABAG’s product portfolio to include insulation boards made of hemp, flax and PET fibres, which have a minimal ecological footprint and have the ability to bind CO2. With the 100% acquisition, the technology group aims to exploit the potential that is currently developing in the field of sustainable building materials while taking another important step towards becoming climate neutral in 2040.

“To become climate neutral across the Group, we must include all aspects of our construction activities. Sustainable innovations in the field of building materials offer excellent opportunities that must be exploited. We will use our skills to further expand the production of climate-friendly insulation and establish this as an independent business segment. We are delighted to have acquired Naporo and welcome its employees to our company,” says Klemens Haselsteiner, CEO of STRABAG SE.

Versatile and promising building material

Hemp insulation pioneer Naporo has been part of Synthesa Group, the Austrian market leader for building paints and external thermal insulation composite systems, since 2014. The hemp fibre insulation boards for the Capatect hemp insulation system have been manufactured at Haugsdorf in Lower Austria since 2015. The versatile boards and are not only suitable as insulation material, but can also be used as acoustic elements, as noise absorbers and for green roofs. The hemp insulation boards also bear the Austrian Ecolabel.

“The acquisition will enable Naporo to explore applications beyond our core business, for example as noise barriers or for green roofs. In STRABAG, we have found a partner who will continue to write Naporo’s success story in the future. We look forward to additional growth prospects for the company and its employees, who we would like to thank for their enormous commitment and trust,” says Synthesa Managing Director Georg Blümel.

The Synthesa Group will work closely together with STRABAG to continue to offer the product range for sustainable façade insulation made of hemp.

The closing of the deal has already taken place. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
