STRABAG implements one of Romania’s largest wind farms as general contractor

  • The 140 MW wind farm Deleni is the largest renewable energy plant in the Moldova region
  • The project is now in the phase of installing its 23 wind turbines
  • Once completed, the wind farm will supply clean energy to around 62,000 households annually
The STRABAG subsidiary STRABAG Romania SRL has reached a major milestone in the Deleni Wind Farm Project – part of the Prowind North Cluster in Vaslui County, Romania. The project was commissioned to STRABAG as general contractor by PPC Renewables Romania and has now entered a key phase: the installation of the 23 GE Vernova wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.1 MW.

With a total installed capacity of 140 MW, the Deleni Wind Farm is the largest renewable energy plant in the Moldova region and one of the most significant projects of its kind in Romania. Once operational by the end of 2025, the facility is expected to generate 370 GWh of green energy annually, enough to power 62,000 households and reduce CO₂ emissions by an estimated 215,000 tonnes per year.
  • As part of our strategic focus on the energy sector, we are proud to contribute to the sustainable energy transition. The Deleni wind farm initiative is part of a series of flagship projects, such as the construction of Latin America's largest wind farm or major grid expansions supporting Germany’s energy transition. This highlights STRABAG’s capability to deliver complex infrastructure for a sustainable future.

    Stefan Kratochwill
    CEO of STRABAG SE
Since construction began in March, STRABAG Romania has completed extensive civil, infrastructure, and electrical works to prepare the site and turbine platforms. This includes the realisation of 23 turbine foundations, more than 36 kilometres of access roads, and comprehensive drainage systems. Electrically, the backbone of the wind farm has been established with 110 kilometres of medium-voltage cabling and the construction of four substations.

The Deleni Wind Farm Project diversifies Romania’s wind energy production beyond the Dobrogea region, contributing to greater grid stability and energy security. It also brings direct benefits to the local communities in Deleni, Costești, and Bogdănești through job creation, infrastructure upgrades, and long-term tax revenues.
