6 October 2026
- Project covers an around 52-kilometre concession route along the D35 corridor
- Including design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the 4-kilometre missing link between Opatovec and Mohelnice
- Approximate value* of 2.9 billion euros for the concession period
- Start of construction planned for late 2026
The ViAlliance35 consortium, comprising STRABAG, Ferrovial´s subsidiaries Cintra and Budimex, and the financial investor Invesis, has been selected by the Czech Ministry of Transport as the preferred bidder for the D35 public-private partnership (PPP) project between Litomyšl and Mohelnice in the Czech Republic. In July the consortium had submitted the most economically and technically advantageous tender in the procurement process. The signing of the contract and the start of the construction works are expected by the end of 2026. The PPP contract has a term of 28 years, commencing from financial close. The construction is to be carried out by a joint venture comprising two Czech construction affiliates of STRABAG (leader) and Budimex.
With a total length of around 52 kilometres, the project is considered the largest PPP scheme to date in the transport sector in the Czech Republic. In addition to the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a 35.4-kilometre section of the D35 motorway between Opatovec, Staré Město and Mohelnice, the PPP project also encompasses the maintenance and operation of 17 kilometres of existing motorway between the Litomyšl and Opatovec junctions. The new construction section consists of a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction. It includes two twin-tube tunnels, measuring around 4 kilometres (Dětřichov Tunnel) and 1.3 kilometres (Maletín Tunnel) in length respectively, which are both being built by STRABAG, as well as two service areas and an additional link road to the I/35.
The D35 is one of the country’s most important infrastructure projects. Once completed, it will link Bohemia with Moravia, relieve numerous towns and villages along the existing I/35 road of through traffic, and take over part of the transit traffic from the heavily congested D1 motorway. The project will thus make a significant contribution to improving mobility and economic development in the region.
