Large-scale contract: STRABAG to construct the new Uttrichshausen viaduct
25 July 2024
- Replacement of the 900-metre-long Uttrichshausen viaduct on the A7 in Hessen
- Construction to begin in August 2024
“We are pleased to have been awarded the contract for the construction of the new Uttrichshausen viaduct. Building modern bridges is essential for the development of our infrastructure. We are therefore proud to be able to apply our expertise to this important supra-regional transport axis on the A7 motorway,” STRABAG CEO Klemens Haselsteiner says.
Modern infrastructure for a north-south connection
At 962 kilometres, the A7 is the longest federal motorway in Germany. The Uttrichshausen bridge is located on the A7 south of the city of Fulda and crosses the valley of the Uttrichshausen district of the municipality of Kalbach. The viaduct is heavily frequented and is expected to be used by 51,000 motor vehicles per day by 2030.
In addition to the construction of the new replacement structure, the contract also includes the dismantling of the two existing structures, which are 880 metres long and together approximately 30 metres wide. They were built between 1966 and 1968 and now have to be replaced by a new, modern bridge as a result of their age.
The new bridge structure to be built extends over a length of 900 metres. The two component structures will be constructed in the same position as the existing structure and equipped with five-metre-high noise barriers and a noise-mitigating road surface on both sides.
