STRABAG subsidiary EFKON wins large Smart City project in India
31 July 2019
- Transportation monitoring system in Aligarh
- Contract value in the double-digit million Euro area
- Project schedule: 12 months
Aligarh, 31 July 2019---EFKON, the toll collection specialist subsidiary of STRABAG, Austria’s largest construction company, is implementing a traffic monitoring system in Aligarh, India. The contract value for this Smart City project is in the double-digit million Euro area.
The contract covers the installation, operation and maintenance of a new traffic surveillance system covering an area of 85 km² with 227 cameras and 63 pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, red light surveillance systems with 74 cameras, and other traffic management components. Construction will take place over 12 months, followed by 60 months of operation and maintenance.
“India has one of the largest but by no means densest road and rail networks in the world. Yet despite constant modifications, traffic often collapses,” says Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG SE. The reasons for this lie in the growth of the population, which is not matched by transport planning and urban planning, as well as in the high number of commuters. The introduction of the new transportation system will increase traffic safety. Traffic control, which reduces overall travel time and minimises traffic jams, will also help reduce high traffic volumes.
