STRABAG AG strengthens horizontal drilling technology: Acquisition of H&E Bohrtechnik
22 April 2026
- Acquisition expands STRABAG AG's technical portfolio and supports trenchless construction methods for infrastructure and energy projects
- All employees are taken on
STRABAG AG is strengthening its expertise in horizontal drilling technology and acquiring H&E Bohrtechnik GmbH, based in Stadtroda (Thuringia). The acquisition represents a significant gain in technical expertise and innovative strength in the field of controlled horizontal drilling technology - a process that is becoming increasingly important in modern pipeline construction and civil engineering. All 33 employees will be taken on and integrated into the Saxony/Thuringia directorate. The ongoing projects will be continued without interruption.
H&E Bohrtechnik has seven modern horizontal directional drilling rigs and many years of experience in challenging drilling and civil engineering projects. The horizontal directional drilling technology used by H&E since 2005 enables the trenchless laying of pipelines without affecting traffic routes or sensitive natural areas on a large scale. It therefore saves resources, reduces interventions in existing infrastructures and makes an important contribution to the use of ecological construction methods. With this acquisition, STRABAG AG is expanding its portfolio in a targeted manner and strengthening its ability to implement complex infrastructure projects to an even greater extent under its own steam in future.
The Stadtroda site is being systematically expanded and developed into a STRABAG competence center for horizontal drilling technology in Germany. STRABAG AG is thus positioning itself even more broadly for future infrastructure and energy network projects. In addition, acquired patents will be further developed and made ready for implementation in the coming years.
The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
