Successful closing of WTE acquisition
Expansion of growth market for water infrastructure in line with Strategy 2030
STRABAG SE has successfully completed the acquisition of WTE Wassertechnik GmbH (WTE) from EVN Group. With the closing of the transaction, STRABAG has reached another milestone in implementing its Strategy 2030 and significantly expands its portfolio in the high-growth water infrastructure sector.
Strategic value added: expansion of service portfolio
With the acquisition of WTE, STRABAG is systematically strengthening its position along the entire water infrastructure value chain. While STRABAG already has comprehensive expertise in the design and construction of water management facilities, WTE enhances the existing portfolio, particularly in the areas of engineering, process technology and plant engineering. WTE also complements the portfolio in the long-term operation of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects, as well as in the planning, construction and operation of mono sewage sludge incineration plants.
In line with Strategy 2030, the acquisition contributes to STRABAG’s evolution into a full-service provider for water infrastructure – from project development, design and construction through to operation, modernisation and lifecycle management.
Attractive market conditions in water infrastructure
The market for water and wastewater infrastructure is characterised by long-term stable investment cycles and strong demand from both the public sector and industry. Globally, the need for resilient, efficient and sustainable water solutions is increasing – both in the municipal sector and in water-intensive industries. These structural conditions make this business area an attractive, counter-cyclical growth market offering long-term planning certainty.
Concrete impact of the transaction on STRABAG
As a result of the acquisition, STRABAG will increase its annual output in the water infrastructure sector by approximately € 300 million. Earnings will be fully consolidated in the Group financial statements from the closing date.
Next steps: integration and joint growth
Following the closing, the focus will be on the structured integration of WTE into the STRABAG Group. WTE will be organisationally assigned to the International & Special Divisions segment and closely integrated with the existing water expertise within the STRABAG Group.
Combining WTE’s technical expertise with STRABAG’s financial strength, international footprint and delivery capability should unlock additional growth potential.
With the successful closing of the WTE acquisition, we are taking a strategically important step for STRABAG. Water infrastructure is a key future market with high social relevance and long-term stable growth prospects. By pooling our expertise, we are becoming a full-service provider in this field and are creating an excellent foundation for sustainable, profitable growth in line with our Strategy 2030.
