STRABAG expands facility services business through acquisition of Bockholdt GmbH & Co. KG

  • 100 % acquisition of northern German cleaning service provider Bockholdt GmbH & Co.KG
  • Acquisition strengthens regional customer structure in northern Germany, boosts competence in infrastructural facility management

With the acquisition of northern German cleaning service provider Bockholdt GmbH & Co. KG, STRABAG Property and Facility Services (STRABAG PFS) is expanding its activities in infrastructural facility management. A corresponding purchase agreement was signed on 22 December 2022. With the acquisition, STRABAG PFS is significantly strengthening its own service volume and expanding its presence in northern Germany.

The STRABAG Group’s USP is its broad range of services along the entire construction value chain. Particularly in the facility services sector, we still see exciting acquisition opportunities that would contribute to our goal of offering nationwide services with a high degree of in-house performance and specialisation. This has certainly been achieved with the acquisition of Bockholdt GmbH & Co.KG,” says Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG SE.

The Lübeck-based family business was founded in 1959 and specialises in cleaning buildings, industrial facilities and hospitals. With around 3,600 employees, an in-house training academy, and 13 locations, Bockholdt is one of the largest and most attractive employers in northern Germany. In addition to maintenance cleaning, the portfolio also includes innovative services in the field of industrial cleaning, robot-assisted cleaning of ventilation systems, as well as the environmentally friendly cleaning of solar and wind power plants, which is carried out by the company’s own industrial climbers. Professional pest control as well as operating room and hospital cleaning are also among the special features of the service portfolio.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2023, subject to regulatory approvals. The parties have agreed not to disclose details as to the purchase price.
